Why players switch apps
Most players do not switch because of one feature. They switch when friction stacks up: slow loads, unclear pricing, or hard-to-understand map and clue flow.
Evaluation framework (use this before switching)
- Speed: does the app feel instant on repeat visits?
- Clarity: are clue, map, and progress states obvious?
- Pricing: can you understand what is free vs paid in one screen?
- Community: can players review, report issues, and share runs easily?
- Safety: are route and cache safety notes visible before start?
Mobile-first matters
Most geocaching sessions happen while walking, not seated at a desktop. A mobile-first web app with strong caching and clear route feedback reduces abandonment and increases completion rates.
Check this before committing
- Can you test a real route for free?
- Are EN/FR (or your needed language) surfaces complete?
- Can you finish a quest with weak network?
- Can you report a broken waypoint in two taps?
